John Phillips III began his highly eventful road-racing career in 1984. He has successfully raced Ford Mustangs, Chevy Camaros and Corvettes, Mazda Miatas, Proteges, and RX-7s, Nissans and Neons.

In Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) road racing, he has been it's Southwest Division Champion every year since 1989 in SSGT, SSC, and SSB Showroom Stock classes. His national successes have culminated in John being repeatedly invited to the SCCA Valvoline Runoffs, the Olympic event of amateur road racing, where he’s been on the podium for 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place finishes in cars that he has prepared.

John has raced all over the United States and Canada with the IMSA endurance series, as well as with a multi-winning race team in the Speedvision Cup Endurance series in 1996 and 1997. One of his favorite moments is standing on the podium at Daytona International Speedway to receive a 1st place trophy. Another challenging and exciting "spray the champagne" win was a 1st place in the Neon Challenge Pro Series in 1998.

In 1999, he returned to endurance racing by joining LOBO Motorsports. As crew chief, car builder and lead driver, he added multiple Motorola Cup endurance wins and the Motorola Cup Compact Division Championship to his impressive race record.

John serves as an SCCA, Porsche Club, Ferrari of Houston and Texas World Speedway Driving Instructor. He is an ASE Master Certified Technician, as well as a Tech Inspector for SCCA Club racing.

In 2003, John’s services were sought out by the owner of Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas, to prepare a multi-car driver education program.

In 2004 and 2005, John set 5 new track records, 20 wins and the championships in the Wheels America Spec Miata Racing Series, as well as earning the Southwest Division SCCA National Championship in Showroom Stock B (SSB).

John Phillips III has been repeatedly recognized for his outstanding talents as both driver and mechanic. He has been named Houston Region SCCA’s Mechanic of the Year and has been awarded the greatly coveted A.J. Foyt Driver of the Year honor in 1995, 1998, and 1999.
